We've been hooked on Margate artist Art School Girlfriend (aka Polly Mackey) since her emergence with 'Bending Back' in 2017. Having gotten to know her a little better in our TMR Talks To... feature (read here), we were delighted to receive confirmation of a forthcoming debut album (with details to follow). Tailor-made for crying on the dance floor, it's beautifully melancholy lead track 'In The Middle', juxtaposes seductive beats with looming sub-bass that morphs into a growling monster by the end of the track. Lightened by Mackey's dusky vocal delivery, 'In The Middle' contemplates compromise and how to navigate modern relationships. Accompanied by another wonderful video directed by long-term collaborator Tom Dream, it's an accomplished audio-visual experience and a spine-tingling treat for the senses. -Holly Mullineaux
